Charities set to benefit from wizard donation

Charities in and around Carmarthen are set to benefit from a £1,000 donation from the town’s Merlin’s Walk shopping centre.

Since the shopping centre was re-named almost three years ago Merlin the wizard has become its brand image. An oak carved statue stands in the centre of the mall, a Mini Merlins club has been set up for youngsters and now Merlin’s Chest hopes to make a significant contribution to the community.

People are being asked to nominate their favourite charity to receive a share of the cash.

Merlin's Walk centre manager John Nash said: “We wanted to make a charitable donation this year but decided the best thing to do was ask shoppers to tell us which charity they think is the most deserving and who they would like us to give the money to.

“The first charity will receive about £350 and there will be two further donations during the year, one in the summer and the last one near Christmas.”

For the first Chest prize people are being asked to visit the Merlin’s Walk website – www.merlinswalk.com – and fill in the contact form with their recommendation by no later than March 24. People can nominate as many times or make as many different recommendations as they wish.

The winning organisation will be the one with the most recommendations.

“We aim to make the first cash presentation at Easter and meantime shoppers who make recommendations will go into a prize draw and have the chance to win £50 to spend on the mall – which I hasten to add will not come out of Merlin’s Chest,” said John.
