Merlin's Walk shoppers vote for 'People First'
in centre's community charity chest

Carmarthenshire People First, a charity which helps adults with learning disabilities, is the first recipient of a £350 cheque from the Merlin’s Chest.
The Chest contains a £1,000 donation from Merlin’s Walk shopping centre which will be divided between local charities three times during the year, with members of the public deciding which organisations will share the cash.
Townspeople are being asked to nominate their favourite charity and the next donation will be made in the summer and another near Christmas.
So which charity should be next? You, the public, will decide.
Shoppers are being asked to visit the Merlin’s Walk website and vote for their chosen charity on our Contact Us page. The next closing date will be Friday, August 3 with the presentation of the next cheque of £350 on August 18.
Merlin’s Walk community chest is supported by the Carmarthen Journal so you can also fill in the form published in the paper and drop it off at the Journal offices or email it to

People can nominate as many times or make as many different recommendations as they wish. The winning organisation will be the one with the most recommendations.
Merlin’s Walk manager John Nash said: “We wanted to make a charitable donation and decided the best thing was to ask shoppers to tell us which charity they think is the most deserving and who they would like us to give the money to.
“Shoppers who make recommendations will also go into a prize draw and have the chance to win £50 to spend on the mall – which will not come out of the Merlin’s Chest,” said John.
The final £350 will be handed over at the end of the year.
